This year the Carnival will feature an obstacle course/slide bounce house (open to kids 4 and older), a giant pumpkin contest and a rabbit petting zoo provided by the local rescue group, All About the Rabbits. Mission favorites are returning with popcorn, cotton candy, the cake walk, face painting, the lollipop tree and many more games.
Taco’s Los Reyes, and Good Dog will satisfy your hunger. While Rich’s Ice Cream Catering will cook up a fresh waffle cone and the amazing pumpkin ice cream and other traditional flavors. Vendors will fill the blacktop with a selections of crafts, small businesses and nonprofits, including Girls Rock Sacramento, Tupperware, Indie Artful, Succulent topped pumpkins and more.
Thank you to our event sponsors, WinCo (Watt Ave.) and Sam’s Club for your support of the Mission Avenue Carnival.
Caine’s Arcade Global Cardboard Challenge
Caine’s Arcade is a free activity, held in conjunction with the Mission Avenue Fall Carnival, where students create, imagine and build with cardboard and other recycled materials. Kids can bring their own cardboard arcade game, robot, sculpture, or other fun things from home, or come and build one with us! Cardboard will be provided!
Caine’s Arcade Global Cardboard Challenge and Day of Play was first brought to Mission by Mission art teacher Mrs. Walker in 2013 after she saw a NBC Nightly News story about the incredible story of Caine Monroy and his cardboard arcade. Mrs. Walker thought, “I must do this with my students!” and shared it with the students, principal, fellow classroom teachers, and the PTA. This year will be our 6th annual event and children look forward to the event and begin to create, invent, and expand their imagination starting in September.
Everyone is encouraged to save cardboard boxes for this great event. There will be an allotted area for the games where everyone gets to play them. There will also be an area for more creating more things with many, many boxes, rolls of tape, markers, and pumpkin carvers.
